Hi there,

for the fans of the best singer/songwriter of our time: ;-)

here is our effort to denote Luka Bloom's The Man Is Alive. The song comes

here in two versions: in open D-tuning, as it's probably played by Luka

himself, and in normal tuning. We start with the open D-tuning.

The man is alive - Luka Bloom

We stood among the totempole

under the Canadian moonlight.

She told me all about her childhood days

on the Vancouver mountain side.

An eightteen month old baby, the night her daddy passed away.

We stood and watched the darkness

flowing into the light of day.

The night sometimes seems dangerous

wonder what it hides.

It sometimes brings us closer

and forever changes our lives.

Strangers talk in open ways,

we cannot always understand

but we began to feel the loving touch

and seen the guiding hand.

The man is alive, alive and breathing.

It's taken me so long to see.

The man is alive, alive and breathing.

The man is alive in me.

As said, it can also be played in normal tuning. We will only give the chord

progressions and fingerings of this one.

Verse chords:

G: C D

--3-----3-------|--0-----0-------|--2-----2-------|
----0-----0-----|----1-----1-----|----3-----1-----|
------0-----0---|------0-----0---|------2-----2---|
----------------|----------------|0-------------0-|
----------------|3-------------3-|----------------|
3-------------3-|----------------|----------------|

The C is played where in open D tuning G/C is denoted, the D where Am/D is

denoted. The chorus is played as follows:

Em D F9 C

----0-----0-----|----3-----3-----|----0-----0-----|----0-----0-----|
----1-----1-----|----2-----2-----|----1-----1-----|----1-----1-----|
--0-------------|--3-------------|--2-------------|--0-------------|
2-------2-------|0-------0-------|3-------3-------|----------------|
----------------|----------------|----------------|3-------3-------|
----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------|

And then back to the verse:

Em D C B/C A

----0-------3---|----0-------0---|----0-------0---|
----1-------2---|----1-------1---|----1-------1---|
--0-------3-----|--0-------0-----|--2-------2-----|
2-------0-------|----------------|----------------|
----------------|3-------2-------|0-------0-------|
----------------|----------------|----------------|

Anyway, for lazy players (like one of us) this sounds quite good too ;-).

For questions or additions, mail either Dirk Paul (d.flach@topos.ruu.nl) or
