Jonas and Ezekial cover art

Jonas and Ezekial

Indigo Girls
Tab
4.5(14)

This is tablature — fret positions rather than chord names. Wide lines scroll sideways on their own, so the page never does.

Each chord is one measure.

[I saw Indigo Girls do this on Austin City Limits, and they played the verse

chords as Am and C. The _Rites_of_Passage_ songbook also shows them as Am

and C. But it _sounds_ like it's mostly Am; that's because the _bass_ plays

A most of the time, even under the C measures. On "ACL," the chords were

strummed so that the fourth and fifth notes of the Am and C measures were

hammer-ons from 0 to 2 on the D string.]

[In other words: the verse is Am Am Am Am(4)>Am Am Am Am C C C C(9)>C C C C.]

Am C

I left my anger in a river running Highway 5

Am C

New Hampshire, Vermont, border by

Am C

College farms, hubcaps, and falling rocks

Am C

Voices in the woods and the mountaintops

I used to search for reservations and native lands

Before I realized everywhere I stand

There have been tribal feet running wild as fire

Some past life sister of are my desire

F G

Jonas and Ezekial, hear me now

C F

Steady now, and don't come out

F G

I'm not ready for the dead to show it's face

C F E7 E7 Am Am Am Am

Whose angel are you anyway, anyway?

Now when I was young, my people taught me well

Give back what you take, or you'll go to hell

It's not the devil's land, you know it's not that kind

Every devil I meet becomes a friend of mine

Every devil I meet is an angel in disguise

Jonas and Ezekial, hear me now

Steady now, and don't come out

I'm not ready for the dead to show its face

Whose angel are you anyway?

Am C Am C

Hey hey hey hey, Hey hey hey hey...

E7 E7 Am C E7 E7

guitar solo

Am C G E7 E7

White - Chain - Rope - Fear - Be still my dear

A bullet in the head, now he's dead

A friend of a friend, someone said

He was an activist with a very short life

I think there's a lesson here, he died without a fight

In the war over land where the world began

Prophecy says it's where the world will end

But there's a tremor growing in our own backyard

Am C Am

Fear in our heads, fear in our hearts, prophets in the graveyards

Jonas and Ezekial, hear me now

Steady now, and don't come out

I'm not ready for the dead to show its face

Whose turn is it anyway?

Jonas and Ezekial, hear me now

Steady now, I feel your ghost about

I'm not ready for the dead to show its face

Whose angel are you anyway?

Am C

I said there's prophets in the graveyard

(Here I walk in beauty)

Am C

Prophets in the graveyard

(Beauty is be - fore me)

Am C Am C Am.

Prophets in the graveyard

(Beauty is be - hind me, above and below me)
